SUMMARY:Symposium on Game Sound and Game Music
DESCRIPTION:\nCall for Papers: Symposium on Game Sound and Game Music
 \n\n\n\n\n\nNovember 16th 2017\n\nWho doesn’t remember the music of Supe
r Mario or Pacman? Music and sound are an important element of game-play
experience as well as an important part of game interfaces giving crucial
information to the player. Some games are focused on music\, or use sound
as a tool of game interaction. One could even argue that other application
s could learn from the way sound and music are used in games. Developing t
echnologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality also demand new
approaches to sound design.\n\nDespite their importance\, audio elements o
f games have gained only fleeting attention within game studies. We are lo
oking for new and innovative approaches to audio  in game research. What
are the unexplored frontiers of game sound and game music that research sh
ould look into?\n\nSymposium on Game Sound and Game Music explores these q
uestions at the University of Jyväskylä. The event is organized by the L
udification and the Emergence of Playful Culture (LUDIC) r
esearch project funded by the Academy of Finland\, and the Department of M
usic\, Art and Culture Studies.\n\nWe are looking for contributions relate

ods and theories\n Musical or sonic interaction in games\; Embodied inter
action with game sound and music\n Audio issues in game interfaces (e.g.
VR and AR games)\n Music games and rhythm games\; New musical interfaces
in games\n Audio and music technologies for games\n Games and gamified a
pplications for music education or music therapy\n Music and audio in gam

1000 words (including references). The language of the symposium is Englis
