SUMMARY:Representations of Early Music on Stage and Screen 3
DESCRIPTION:Representations of Early Music on Stage and Screen 3\nThe Unive
rsity of Sheffield\, June 10th 2017\n\n\nThe annual conference of the Repr
esentation of Early Music on Stage and Screen study group (REMOSS)\, now i
n its third year\, invites abstracts on any topic looking at the way that
the past is represented musically in stage and screen media. The group is
hosted by Birmingham Conservatoire and is a collective of scholars and art
ists interested in how the musical past is evoked or reimagined in novel a
nd exciting ways. Topics at our recent conferences and roundtables have ra
nged from contemporary British Opera\, to historical drama on TV\, to high
-fantasy videogame. We would be especially interested to hear from scholar
s investigating topics related to:\n\n\n Musical identities: nation\, cul
ture\, gender \n Interactions between folk and early music\n Early musi
c in opera \n Early music and videogame\n Representations of musical spa
ces in the Middle ages\n Medievalism and neo-medievalism\n Historically
informed performance in popular culture.\n\nHowever\, anything relating to
early music on stage and screen media more broadly is welcomed and will b
e considered. The conference\, though hosted at Sheffield\, will (as ever)
involve a strong digital component so both delegates and speakers can att
end digitally. Abstracts of c.250 words should be sent\, along with contac
 t details\, to James Cook ( james.cook@sheffield.ac.uk ) by Friday 27th Ja
nuary. For those wishing to get a feel for the kinds of topics and approac
hes we work with\, please consider logging on to our next e-roundtable\, w
hich is due to take place on Friday 13th January 15:30-17:30 (UK time). \n
\nIf you wish to attend\, please contact Adam Whittaker (adam.whittaker@bc
u.ac.uk ) for instructions to access our study group resource page. Also\
, keep an eye out for our forthcoming book Recomposing the Past: Represent
ations of Early  Music on Stage and Screen (Routledge\, 2017) - hopefully
the first of many publications from the REMOSS group!\n\nWe look forward
to hearing from you.\n\nAdam Whittaker (Birmingham City University)\n Jame
s Cook (University of Sheffield)\n Alexander Kolassa (University of Nottin
 gham)
